Let There Be Light | Genesis 1:3

Sunset breaking through trees with bold text reading “Let There Be Light,” symbolizing God’s clarity and protection.
There’s something holy about the very first words God ever spoke: “Let there be light.” Before creation had formed, before the world had beauty, before life had breath, God released light into darkness. Light wasn’t an afterthought. It was the beginning. The starting point. The first move of God when everything felt empty, dark, and void.

And that’s often exactly how He moves in our lives, too. He speaks light into the places that feel confusing. He speaks direction into moments that feel overwhelming. He speaks truth into situations that feel unclear or unexpected.

There was a season in my life where I desperately needed that kind of light. I had applied for a job that seemed absolutely perfect, in literally every way, good pay, amazing benefits, work I loved, and an opportunity that felt like it was tailor-made for me, heaven-sent even. Everything in me believed, “This is the breakthrough I’ve been praying for.” I walked through the hiring process with excitement and gratitude, believing God’s hand was in all of it.

Then suddenly, everything unraveled.

Paperwork complications, delays, and unexpected issues piled up. Confusion set in. I tried to stay calm and trust God, but inside I felt the weight of disappointment building.

And then came the call. The job was no longer mine.

I was devastated.

Gutted.

Embarrassed.

Confused.

It felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me. I couldn’t make sense of it. I had prayed. I had trusted. I had stepped out in faith. Why would God allow something so promising to collapse?

It wasn’t until months later (6-ish and man was it rough) that someone who worked for that same company shared something with me and it opened my eyes. In that moment, I realized: God had protected me from a situation I didn’t even know I needed protection from.

The disappointment had been real. The heartbreak had been painful. But the protection was even more real and far more loving.

Sometimes God closes a door because He is saying, “Let there be light.”

Light that reveals what you couldn’t see.

Light that protects you from what you didn’t know.

Light that guides your steps away from what looked good but wasn’t best.

Light that leads you into something healthier, safer, and more aligned with His purpose.

Does the sting disappear overnight? No.

Does the confusion dissolve immediately? Not always.

But His light always comes. And when it does, clarity follows.

Genesis 1:3 isn’t just a creation moment. It’s a pattern of how God moves in our lives: Light first. Understanding later.

If you’re in a place where something didn’t work out… If a door closed suddenly… If confusion feels louder than clarity… Take heart. God may already be whispering, “Let there be light.”

Prayer

Father, thank You for speaking light into the places of my life that feel dark or confusing. Thank You for protecting me from things I didn’t see coming and guiding me even when I don’t understand the full picture. Help me trust Your timing, Your wisdom, and Your goodness. Illuminate every step I take. Speak “let there be light” over my decisions, my future, and my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
