It’s progressive.
It’s forward-moving.
It’s ever-changing under His steady hand. “But the path of the just is like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.” The Christian life isn’t about instant perfection. It’s about continual transformation, a slow, steady brightening orchestrated by the One who knows exactly who He’s shaping you into.
And if we’re honest, most of us don’t appreciate this while we’re living it. We only see it when we look back. I can look back at my childhood, my teenage years, even my early adulthood, and I see someone who didn’t understand much at all, someone immature, someone searching, someone who hadn’t yet learned how to anchor her identity in Christ. I see someone who made mistakes, someone who struggled, someone who didn’t fully grasp who God created her to be. But I also see this: a steady hand guiding me, a faithful God shaping me, a light that kept growing even when I didn’t recognize it.
Now, at 31, I can look at my life and see clearly what I didn’t see before, that God has been transforming me step by step, year by year, moment by moment. I understand who I am in Him in a way I couldn’t have fathomed then.
I see purpose where there once was confusion.
I see identity where there once was insecurity.
I see growth where there once was immaturity.
And that’s the beauty of Proverbs 4:18: God never leaves us as we are. His light increases as we walk with Him.
Here’s today’s truth nugget: The longer you walk with God, the clearer His work in your life becomes.
We grow because He keeps shining. We transform because His Spirit keeps working. We change because His love keeps pursuing us. And someday, ten years from now, twenty years from now, we’ll look back and see even more growth, even more evidence of His hand, even more transformation to thank Him for. Because your journey isn’t random. Your story isn’t stagnant. Your growth isn’t accidental. You are becoming, day by day, exactly who He designed you to be.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for faithfully transforming my life over time. Thank You for the growth I can see when I look back, and for the growth I haven’t even reached yet. Help me walk in confidence knowing that You are shaping me, guiding me, and brightening my path. Keep leading me into who You’ve created me to be. In Jesus’ name, amen.
