The Goodness of the Lord | Psalm 27:13

Some verses feel like oxygen and Psalm 27:13 is one of them.

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.”

David doesn’t pretend life was easy. He doesn’t pretend he never felt discouraged or weary. He says plainly: “I would have lost heart…”

And haven’t we all been there?

Those moments where hope feels thin, prayers feel slow, and the path ahead feels unclear?

What kept David standing wasn’t positivity, denial, or emotional strength, it was belief. A settled confidence in the character of God. A conviction that God’s goodness wasn’t just a theological idea, it was a promise anchored in reality. Not someday. Not only in eternity. Not “once things finally get better.” But in the land of the living

God’s goodness is not just for later, it’s for now.

Psalm 31:19 echoes this truth: “Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You…” And again in Nahum 1:7: “The LORD is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble…” God’s goodness is not fragile. It doesn’t waver with our feelings. And it doesn’t disappear in hard seasons.

Here’s today’s truth nugget: Even when life feels heavy, God’s goodness is already on its way to meet you.

David “would have lost heart” unless he believed. Your belief, even if it feels small, quiet, or trembling, still counts. Faith isn’t loud confidence; sometimes it’s simply refusing to give up.

If today feels heavy, hold this verse close:

You will see His goodness.

You will see His provision.

You will see His faithfulness, not only in heaven, but here, in your life, in this season.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your goodness — not just someday, but here and now. Strengthen my heart when I feel weary. Help me believe that I will see Your goodness in the land of the living. Amen.
