"Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another..." Romans 12:10

There is something sacred about the way God uses people in our lives to show His love. Romans 12:10 says, “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another.” The Greek word for “brotherly love” here is philadelphia, a warm, committed, family-like love. It’s the kind of love that doesn’t just show up; it stays.

In a world that often celebrates independence, Scripture gently reminds us that we were created for connection. We grow best when we grow together. God places people in our lives who reflect His nature, women who pray with us, friends who understand our struggles without needing explanations, mentors who speak truth in love, and family who anchor us in grace. This kind of affection is intentional. It’s not passive or polite. It prefers the other person. It listens deeply. It honors gently. It makes room for someone else’s heart.

Philippians 2:3 echoes this mindset: “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.” Gratitude helps us live this out. It shifts the focus from ourselves to the blessing of others.

Here’s today’s truth nugget: Sisterly love thrives where honor lives.

When we honor the women in our lives, by encouraging them, supporting them, or simply being present, we participate in the kind of love Jesus modeled. John 13:35 says, “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Our love becomes a testimony, a living picture of the gospel

Take a moment today to reflect on the women who’ve stood beside you, those who’ve prayed, comforted, sharpened, or lifted you. Their love is a gift straight from the heart of God

Let your gratitude rise like a quiet prayer: “Lord, thank You for the sisters You’ve given me.” And maybe… send a message or voice note. Tell someone you’re grateful for them. Sometimes one sentence of encouragement can change the entire tone of someone’s day.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of sisterly love, women who reflect Your heart. Help me to honor them well, love them deeply, and show Your kindness through my words and actions. Amen.
