Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct. Hebrews 13:7
There are people who quietly change the course of our lives. They teach us, challenge us, and remind us of God’s truth when we start to forget it. Hebrews 13:7 calls us to remember those who have spoken the word of God to you. “Remember” in this context doesn’t just mean recall, it means to honor and emulate. It’s an invitation to reflect on the faith of those who’ve gone before us and to carry their example forward.
Think about someone who’s poured into your spiritual growth, a pastor, a teacher, a parent, a friend who prays without being asked. Their investment in your walk is evidence of God’s faithfulness at work. 1 Corinthians 11:1 echoes this idea: “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.” Gratitude for them is gratitude to the God who sent them.
Here’s today’s truth nugget: Gratitude remembers that growth is never a solo journey.
Every step of faith we take has been shaped by someone’s encouragement, teaching, or example. God uses people to reflect His character in the everyday rhythms of our lives.
Romans 10:15 asks, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!” Beautiful feet aren’t perfect feet, they’re faithful ones. And faithfulness deserves to be remembered.
Take time today to thank someone who’s helped you grow. Send a message, make a call, or simply whisper a prayer of thanks. Gratitude turns remembrance into honor, and honor points our hearts back to the One who made all growth possible.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the voices that have spoken life into mine. Help me to honor their faith by living what they taught and by pouring that same grace into others. Amen.
