Thanksgiving isn’t just a holiday, it’s a spiritual rhythm woven all throughout Scripture. And Psalm 107:1 captures that rhythm beautifully: “Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.”
Gratitude is more than a feeling.
More than a moment at the dinner table.
More than a list of things we appreciate.
Gratitude is an act of remembrance. A choice. A returning. A reorientation of the heart toward the One who has never failed us.
Psalm 107 tells stories, people wandering, people trapped, people sick, people overwhelmed, each one ending with the same invitation: “Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness…”
The goodness of God is not seasonal.
It doesn’t depend on circumstances. It doesn’t shift like emotions or change with the weather. His mercy, His loyal love, endures forever.
Today, gratitude may look like celebrating the obvious blessings. Or it may look like whispering thanks through tears. Or simply recognizing that even in a complicated year, God has been faithful. Colossians 3:15 says, “And be thankful.” Not because life is perfect, but because God is present.
Here’s today’s truth nugget: Gratitude doesn’t ignore reality, it redirects it toward God’s goodness.
If this year stretched you, He carried you.
If this year changed you, He sustained you.
If this year blessed you, He gave every good gift.
Thanksgiving is not about pretending everything is easy. It’s about acknowledging that even when things are hard, God is still good.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your goodness, Your mercy, and Your faithful presence in every season. Teach me to live with a grateful heart, not just today but every day. Amen.
