"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works..." Hebrews 10:24

Some people step into our lives and remind us what goodness looks like. They call out the best in us, inspire us to grow, and stir up parts of our hearts that we didn’t even know were asleep.

Hebrews 10:24 tells us to “consider one another in order to stir up love and good works.” That phrase “consider one another” means to pay attention, to see the people God has entrusted to us and be intentional about encouraging them. Gratitude becomes powerful when it’s outward-facing. It not only helps us notice what God is doing in us, but what He’s doing in others.

Think about the people who have stirred up love in your life, the friend who reminds you that you’re stronger than you think, the family member who prays for you, the mentor who encourages you to keep showing up. These are not random moments of kindness; they are God-sent nudges toward purpose.

Scripture tells us in Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Gratitude sharpens us too, it shifts our perspective from self-focused to others-centered. When we focus on stirring up love, we’re joining God in the work He’s already doing in the people around us. We are participating in His kindness.

Here’s a truth nugget: Encouragement is one of the purest expressions of gratitude.

When you tell someone, “I see what God is doing in you,” it strengthens their faith and yours. Romans 12:10 reminds us to “be kindly affectionate… giving preference to one another.” Gratitude fuels this kind of affection and it helps us love with intention, not just emotion.

Today, ask yourself: Who can I stir up? Who needs a kind word, a reminder of their purpose, or someone to believe in their calling? Gratitude doesn’t just see goodness, it spreads it.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the people who have stirred up love and goodness in me. Help me to do the same for others. Let my words, actions, and attitudes reflect Your heart today. Amen.
